College Announces New Associate Dean of Outreach

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 2, 2023) – Wake Tech is pleased to announce Elvin James as the new associate dean of outreach.

In this role, James will provide strategic direction, support and supervision for the recruitment and enrollment of new Wake Tech students. He will oversee the recruitment and outreach team, Career & College Promise (CCP) program for dual-enrolled high school students and various grant-funded initiatives to promote career and college access.

James and the outreach team are strategically focused on assisting students in Wake County's four Title 1 high schools – South Garner High, Southeast Raleigh High, Knightdale High and East Wake High – with enrollment in Wake Tech programs.

He has 13 years of combined experience in admissions and recruitment at Wake Tech, Central Carolina Community College and Fayetteville State University. Most recently, he led the growth of Wake Tech's traditional CCP program to more than 3,000 students as the program's director. He is also a recipient of the college's Excellence in Leadership Award and the Reach 'n Rally Award.

"In my years of working in higher education, my core values have been centered around providing first-generation, underrepresented and low-income students access to quality education and career opportunities," James said. "In accordance to Wake Tech's Reach 'n Rally plan and values, this opportunity will allow me to further collaborate, communicate and critically think of new ways to meet our goals to best serve our students. Wake Tech continues to 'Lead the Way,' and I'm excited to continue on this journey."

James holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication with a concentration in public and interpersonal communication.

A key member of James' team is Anthony Garnes, who has also been promoted to Director of College Access and Outreach, managing the execution of robust outreach activities to increase engagement with prospective students and families.
