RALEIGH, N.C. (March 31, 2022) – Going once, going twice, sold! The inaugural class of Wake Tech’s Workforce Continuing Education Auctioneer Academy held its first student auction today at the Beltline Education Center.
The students have learned all aspects of conducting an auction, and this event was an opportunity for them to practice their skills. The students auctioned off a variety of donated items, including art, furniture, cookware, antiques and even a box of vinyl records.
Dozens of people attended the auction and purchased items. The student auctioneers raised more than $2,000. The proceeds are going to the Wake Tech Foundation for student scholarships.
"I am very proud of these students," said Michael Langer, director of Languages and Lifelong Learning at Wake Tech. "To see them put what they have learned into practice was very impressive."
The Wake Tech Auctioneer Academy is one of only three in the state. The course provides a working knowledge of the auction business, including conducting auctions, ethics, contract drafting, bid calling, basic mathematical computations and percentages, advertising, settlement statements and laws and rules related to auctioneering. Upon completion, students can take the license exam offered by the North Carolina Auctioneer Board.
