Students Showcase Baking Skills

“Bakers’ Row” Shops Sell Desserts, Breads, and Savory Treats

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 2 ,2018) - Advanced students in Wake Tech’s Baking & Pastry Arts program presented Bakers’ Row - a showcase of their original concept bakeries - today at the Northern Wake Campus. The students displayed and sold their most imaginative creations, from savory biscuits and artisanal breads and baguettes to cookies and pastries.

One of the students offered a southern comfort brunch café featuring dixie cannonballs (drop biscuits with sausage and gravy inside), almond wedding cookies, and bananas foster cheesecake. Customers were also treated to a gluten-free bakery and a display with an all chocolate menu. Another student sold sweet and savory treats, including bacon bourbon cupcakes, apple poblano hand pies, sweet potato biscuits with ham, and poached pears stuffed with honey goat cheese and wrapped in prosciutto.

The event was open to the public.

Bakers’ Row is an end-of-year project for students in the Baking & Pastry Arts associate degree program which prepares aspiring bakers for entry into the industry as pastry chefs, cake designers, and bakery managers.
