Concealed Carry Instructor Update/Refresher Training Course

The class is designed to update concealed carry handgun instructors on civil liability concerns and changes in North Carolina laws. It also covers private citizens' rights to apply deadly force and when it may/may not be used; the types of firearms that may be carried concealed and the documents required; prohibited locations; the legal consequences of the use of alcohol or illegal controlled substances; justified self-defense; and the law of home, workplace and motor vehicle protection.

Course Objectives

Identify what firearm may be carried concealed.

Identify the two (2) documents a person carrying a concealed handgun must carry and display to a law enforcement officer upon request.

Describe when a concealed carry handgun permit holder must advise a law enforcement officer that permit holder is carrying a concealed handgun.

List several locations where having a concealed carry handgun permit still prohibits possession of a concealed handgun.

State the legal consequences of alcohol and illegal controlled substance use on the permit to carry a concealed handgun.

Describe and teach the four (4) elements of the law of justified self-defense.

State and apply the law of home, workplace, and motor vehicle protection.

Describe when deadly force can be used to intervene on behalf of another person who is being threatened.

Describe the aggressor/instigator rule.

Understand that deadly force may NOT be lawfully used to a) expel a trespasser, b) prevent theft of property, c) prevent a criminal's escape, and d) stop a simple assault.
