EKG Cardiovascular Technician/Monitor

Prepare for a high-demand and flexible health care career as a cardiovascular technician! Learn the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of the EKG, heart rhythms, heart blocks and bundle branches and more. Find out how to operate EKG equipment, including running and mounting strips, reading and interpreting cardiac lead tracings and understanding the basics of capnography as related to heart function.

Course Objectives

Explain the role of the EKG technician in a variety of settings

Understand medical terminology related to electrocardiography

Explain the anatomy and physiology of the heart

Prepare a patient for a 12- and five- lead EKG

Analyze and interpret basic EKG strips

Understand normal sinus rhythm, sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, etc.

Perform 10 live EKG strips

Certification Learning Outcomes/Requirements

This course is designed and approved to prepare the student to become a certified EKG (ECG) technician/monitor.

Set up and administer EKGs (electrocardiograms) and stress tests

Prepare patients for Holter or ambulatory monitoring

Edit and deliver final test results to physicians for analysis

Transcribe physicians' interpretations
