Spanish Language and Culture in TV and Film

Watching television programs and movies in Spanish is an excellent way to learn grammar and the subtleties of language that are often missing in traditional textbook-based courses. Whether you're learning Spanish for business, travel, or personal enrichment, this course will enhance your vocabulary and deepen your understanding of Spanish-speaking countries and people. Each lesson contains a carefully chosen television episode or film clip accompanied by discussion and activities to improve comprehension. Instructional material may change based on the availability of resources. This course may be taken more than once.

Course Objectives

Introduction of media, vocabulary, preview activities.

Topic analysis, use of stereotypes, review of future tense, conditional, and possessive pronouns, guided discussion.

Topic analysis, historical significance, review of the subjunctive, guided discussion.

Topic analysis, interpreting character traits and behavior, guided discussion.

Topic analysis, expressing opinions, evaluating outcomes, guided discussion.

Topic analysis, expressing opinions in writing and providing evidence from instructional content.

Topic analysis, review of transitive and intransitive verbs, guided comprehension activities.
