Crisis Intervention Team (C.I.T.)

Crisis Intervention Training (C.I.T.) is a training program developed to help police officers react appropriately to situations involving mental illness or developmental disability. Communities large and small are seeking answers to managing crisis issues and crisis services. This 24-hour program is designed for Detention personnel who will be interacting with individuals with mental illness to improve responses to people in crisis.

Course Objectives

Understand various categories of mental Illness.

Learn about psychiatric medication, how they help the individual; possible side effects and potential abuse of this medication.

Discuss substance abuse disorders as it pertains to the individual with mental illness.

Discuss suicide among individuals with mental illness and personality characteristics and traits that may be recognized.

Identify situations of potentially explosive concerns and learn De-escalation strategies to calm the person with mental illness.

Complete Detention CIT reports.
