Community Policing for Supervisors

This course focuses on the patrol supervisor's role in community policing. Participants will learn strategies for measuring community policing efforts and how to document those efforts on a performance evaluation. The course presents problem-oriented policing as a tool for effective beat management, and shows how intelligence-led policing can guide community policing and problem solving.

Course Objectives

Have a fundamental understanding of the current policing methods and philosophies such as Community Oriented Policing (COP); Problem Oriented Policing (POP); Intelligence Led Policing (ILP); and Community Oriented Government (COG).

Understand the potential barriers to implanting COP, POP, ILP, and COG and the best practices approach to overcoming them.

Understand how to set expectations for their subordinates when it comes to community policing efforts.

Define policing philosophy.

Understand how to evaluate an officers community policing efforts.
