Force Decision-Making and Documentation (Online)

This course is part 1 of a 2-part training which consists of an instructional portion covering the concept and processes for use of force decision-making and documentation (part 1) followed by practical skills exercises (part 2) .

Law Enforcement officers are given training in a variety of force skills and knowledge in order to deal with non-compliant subjects. Unfortunately, knowledge and skills alone are not enough to effectively and reasonably use force and manage the risks. In addition to reasonable knowledge and proficient skills, decision-making under threat and how officers document the incident are also critical. Training in use-of-force knowledge, skills, decision-making, and documentation need to occur on a regular basis for law enforcement officers to have realistic confidence in their ability to effectively identify, assess, and respond to force situations. Being able to effectively document their observations, thoughts, and actions are critical to overall force risk management.
