Recognizing Assaultive Behaviors - Law Enforcement

This lesson will enhance a law enforcement officer's ability to recognize precursors of assaultive behavior and assess what actions might be necessary to mitigate potential danger. The information provided in this course is an overview of behavioral, verbal, and emotional warning signs that suggest an assault may be imminent. The subject matter is not a comprehensive list of all possible factors an officer will use for threat assessment. A single indicator of pre-assault behavior seldom stands alone as justification for a frisk, detention, or use of force. An officer must always consider the subject's physical, verbal, and emotional displays as well as environmental conditions collectively with other articulate facts when examining the need for immediate action.

Course Objectives
