Wake Tech Hosts Fall 2013 Commencement Exercises

RALEIGH, N.C. (December 14, 2013) - More than 500 students received degrees and diplomas at Wake Tech today. Two ceremonies were held in the gymnasium on Main Campus, at 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 Noon. The first ceremony was held for graduates in career programs (Associate in Applied Science degrees): business, health sciences and vocational trades. The second ceremony included additional career programs graduates in computer technologies and engineering, as well as graduates in the Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Science (AS) degree programs for college/university transfer. Graduates range in age from 19 to 67. Wake County District Court Judge Keith O. Gregory told graduates at the first ceremony that this was a new beginning. He said that "Wake Tech had provided the vehicle for them to move forward" in their lives. Williard Whiteside, a 63-year-old graduate, spoke at the second ceremony. He thanked Wake Tech for refining his raw talent and making him marketable. “I am the captain of my ship, and because of Wake Tech I can stand on the ship and spread my wings.” Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott congratulated the graduates, and reminded local employers that many of them are ready to go to work "next week!"
