Students Shine at SkillsUSA State Competition
Three Students Qualify to Compete at Nationals

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 24, 2023) – Wake Tech Career and Technical Education students shined at the 2023 SkillsUSA North Carolina State Leadership & Skills Conference in Greensboro, bringing home 18 awards, including five first-place honors.
Three students – Oscar Avina-Rodriguez (Architectural Technology), Julieanna Perciballi (Collision Repair and Refinishing Technology) and Charles Myatt (Electronics Engineering Technology), qualified to compete at the national SkillsUSA competition in June in Atlanta.
In all, 54 Wake Tech students from the Architectural Technology, Automotive Systems Technology, Collision Repair and Refinishing Technology, Cosmetology (degree and non-degree), Esthetics Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology and Welding Technology programs put their skills to the test. This was the first time that applied engineering students competed and was the return of Architectural Technology students to the contest since the pandemic.
Forty-three high school students from Vernon Malone College and Career Academy, a Cooperative Innovative High School partnership between Wake Tech and the Wake County Public School System, also competed and received 19 awards. Two students – William Morrison (Collision Repair and Refinishing Technology) and Samantha Medina-Mead (Cosmetology) qualified to compete in the national competition.
