MORRISVILLE, N.C. (July 15, 2026) – Prospective students, career changers and working professionals explored high-demand career pathways Wednesday during Wake Tech's Biotech and IT Open House at the RTP Campus.
The event connected more than 160 participants with faculty, staff and industry-aligned programs designed to prepare students for careers in two of the Triangle's fastest-growing sectors.
Guests toured laboratories and technology spaces, learned about degree and non-degree programs, explored short-term training options and received personalized guidance on educational and career pathways. The event showcased opportunities in biotechnology, cybersecurity, software development, cloud computing, data analytics and other technology-focused fields.
Among the attendees was Delvin Aricatt, a Cary nurse considering a career change. He attended the open house to explore opportunities in biotechnology and information technology and learn more about Wake Tech's programs.
"I am looking for a change and to find my passion," Aricatt said. "I figured this was a good opportunity to explore what Wake Tech has to offer."
Aricatt said he is considering Wake Tech's BioWork Process Technician certificate course, a short-term workforce training program that can prepare students for entry-level positions in biomanufacturing. The certificate also provides course credit that can be applied toward an associate degree in Biotechnology.
"I want to try a short-term training opportunity to see if this is the path I want to pursue," he said.
The open house highlighted Wake Tech's commitment to supporting the workforce needs of the Research Triangle, where employers continue to seek skilled talent in biotechnology, life sciences, information technology and emerging technology fields.
"Technology continues to shape every industry, creating strong demand for skilled professionals across a wide range of careers," said Cindy Luttrell, dean of Information Technology. "Our programs provide students with hands-on experience, industry-relevant skills and clear pathways to rewarding careers."
Wake Tech works closely with industry partners to align its programs with workforce demands and provide students with practical, career-focused training. The RTP Campus, in the heart of one of the nation's leading innovation hubs, offers students direct access to education and training opportunities that support the region's continued economic growth.
The college offers a range of credentials through its Biotechnology and Information Technology programs, including associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and workforce training programs designed to help students launch or advance their careers.
