Medical Terminology

Start learning the language of the medical field. Learn terminology for the anatomy and physiology of all body systems, laboratory medicine, pharmacology and major diseases, as well as terms used in physical exams, operative procedures and diagnoses. Other topics in the class include definitions, spelling, commonly-used prefixes, suffixes, root words and combining forms.

Course Objectives

Identify the four types of word parts used in forming medical terms

Identify medical terms related to diseases, disorders and other medical conditions

Describe the structural organization of the human body

Identify the body systems

Describe the body planes, directional terms, quadrants and body cavities

List the major organs in each body system and identify the anatomical location of the organs

Compare structure and function of the human body across the lifespan

Describe the normal function of each body system

Identify common pathology related to each body system, including signs, symptoms and etiology

Analyze pathology for each body system, including diagnostic measures and treatment modalities
