This course focuses on understanding performance challenges officers face when making decisions under time-compressed, life-threatening circumstances. It emphasizes human factors, cognitive limitations, and perceptual distortions that occur during high-stress situations. Officers will gain exposure to critical information on human factors and decision-making in force encounters, enhancing their awareness of their own cognitive processes. By understanding key concepts such as speed and motion, video limitations, and the investigation process, officers will be better prepared for the aftermath of critical incidents. This knowledge will ultimately improve tactical decision-making skills, boost confidence, and enhance officer safety.
