Course Offerings

This course is designed to give law enforcement officers the tools to control, apprehend and survive an assault. This is done through training in defensive tactics and Officer Survival techniques. During this block of instruction, students will be exposed to officer safety tactics that will help them stay safe while performing their duties as North Carolina State highway patrolmen.

Outline of Instruction

Roadside interview location: Violator's vehicle, between two vehicles, patrol vehicle

Statistical Data: Information regarding Line of Duty Deaths

Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Spray; Physiological and psychological effects; delivery methods, decontamination

Impact Weapons: Deployment and target areas

Arm control: Controlling suspects

Control Techniques: Assisting other officers

Practical Exercises. Use of Force based scenarios

This class must be taught by an instructor who is currently certified by the NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division as a General Instructor and Arrest Techniques Instructor and participated in the Train-the-Trainer class
