The Architectural Technology program prepares individuals to assist architects, engineers and construction professionals in developing plans and related documents for residential and commercial projects. This includes instruction in architectural drafting, computer-assisted drafting, construction materials and methods, environmental systems, codes and standards, structural principles, cost estimation and planning.

Students learn architectural illustration skills in hand drafting and digital software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop and rendering software, along with architectural graphics and presentation skills.

Students will learn and demonstrate proficiency in the following:

  • Drafting and illustration
  • Elements and principles of design
  • Design process and related fundamentals
  • Principles of construction and engineering
  • Knowledge of materials sustainability and building standards

The department is a member of the Coalition of Community College Architecture Programs. Also, students can participate in the college's American Institute of Architecture Students chapter (AIAS Wake Tech).
