The Mechanical Engineering Technology program prepares students for jobs as mechanical technicians, who assist in the design, development, testing and repair of mechanical equipment.
Emphasis is placed on the integration of theory and mechanical principles. Course work includes applied mechanics, manufacturing methods and processes, computer usage, computer-aided drafting, mathematics, physics and oral and written communications.
The program also offers a Mechatronics track with an emphasis on courses related to the mechatronics field. Courses stress critical thinking, planning and problem solving and include analysis of electric circuits, fluid power in automation and mechatronics.
Graduates have transfer opportunities to pursue bachelor's degrees at UNC-Charlotte (Engineering Technology - Mechanical), East Carolina University (Industrial Technology) and North Carolina Wesleyan University. Wake Tech's Mechanical Engineering Technology AAS degree does not transfer to North Carolina State University.

Mechanical engineering technicians are employed in many types of manufacturing, fabrication, research and development, and service industries. So, graduates should have a range of employment opportunities.
