Student Government

Hello students, I am William Guevara. I am the SGA president for the 2023-24 academic year.

I was born and raised in Raleigh. This will mark the start of my second year at Wake Tech. Once I complete my Associate in Fine Arts, I have plans to transfer to N.C. State or UNC-Charlotte to pursue my bachelor's degree.

I will work hard and give my best for the Student Government Association as president. My goal is to make sure things run smoothly, help others and give support to all. I am ecstatic to play a part in the SGA and connect with the students that I will serve. I hope to hear from the voice of the students.

Hi Eagles! I'm Karolaine Reis, and I am the SGA vice president for the 2023-24 academic year.

I am honored to be serving the student body in my freshman year at Wake Tech. I am an international student from Brazil in the Associate of Engineering and Associate of Science programs. I am also the founder of "Dream Factory," which is a community project specifically designed for high school students to connect others with educational and career information from my hometown in Brazil. My main objective after Wake Tech is to transfer to a four-year university and obtain a bachelor's degree in computer engineering.

My primary goal in the SGA is to optimize any process I can to make it easier for Wake Tech students to reach their academic goals while also prioritizing their psychological, physical and social wellness. I know from my own experience how crucial it can be for students to be seen and heard. I simply want to make sure that all students at Wake Tech have access to all benefits available in order to reach their goals.

Hey Eagles! My name is Catherine Weafer, and I am your SGA secretary for the 2023-24 academic year.

My Wake Tech journey started in Fall 2022, and I will be graduating in Spring 2024. I am working toward my Associate in Science degree, and I hope to transfer to a four-year university for a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Science, with a diagnostic medical sonography concentration. I recently moved from Massachusetts, and Wake Tech has welcomed me with open arms. In addition to serving in this new role, I am also a part of the Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society. In my free time, I love to read, spend time with friends, play soccer and go for walks.

As your secretary, I hope to make a lasting impact and be intentional with my work. This year will be full of teamwork, open communication and collaboration for the betterment of all Wake Tech students. I am very excited and thankful for this opportunity.

Hi, my name is Marjorie Chanakira, a freshman student working on an Associate in Engineering degree. I am pleased to be the treasurer for this academic year and look forward to working toward a greater cause. I am a proud member of the National Society for Black Engineers (NSBE) and also part of the Wake Tech Honors Program. I went to high school in Zimbabwe and am new to the country. I spend most of my time reading mysteries and baking.

I hope to grow as an individual in this role, sharpening my communication skills as well as my ability to listen and hear the voices of the students. I wish to be a great representative of the student body so that no one feels left out or unheard. I hope the 2023-24 academic year will be filled with many life-changing experiences and opportunities for everyone.

Hi everyone! My name is Cricket Wellum, and I will be serving as public information officer this 2023-24 school year.

In May 2023, I graduated with my degree in Office Professional Administration, but I am so excited to continue my educational journey at Wake Tech. My end goal is to obtain a bachelor's degree in sociology. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community and as someone who is neurodivergent, I am incredibly passionate about equity and inclusion for all. In the future, I hope to work directly with marginalized communities to achieve this goal.

This school year, I hope to provide a friendly face and support to all students. My goal for this school year is to help create an environment where all students can thrive. As public information officer, I plan to share events and opportunities that will allow every student to feel connected to the Wake Tech community.
