Intended Audience
This course is designed for non-Spanish speakers who work in construction trades and who would like to communicate with customers, employees, and coworkers in Spanish.
Description
Continue working on the Spanish you need for communicating clearly and appropriately on the construction site. In the second course in this two-part series, you’ll learn practical language that can be used immediately. The course also includes important cultural information that will help you use the language effectively in the workplace.
Course Objectives
  1. demonstrate a working knowledge of construction-related expressions, commands, and vocabulary.
  2. demonstrate a basic level of both speaking and listening skills in Spanish as it relates to the language used in the construction trade.
Outline of Instruction
  1. Review of basic skills such as pronunciation, greetings, everyday questions, commands, and construction vocabulary.
  2. All forms of the verbs BE and HAVE.
  3. Vocabulary specific to the construction trade.
  4. Vocabulary and expressions necessary for safety and emergencies.
  5. Talking about things that happened in the past.
  6. Talking about things that are going to happen in the future.
  7. Tips for intercultural communicative competence.

Students should already have a basic knowledge of construction terminology in English.

Requirements for Successful Completion of this Course
  1. Attendance 90% or above
  2. Participation
  3. Tests and quizzes may be given in this class. Passing tests and quizzes with a 75% or higher may be a condition of obtaining the certificate of this course.
