Intended Audience
This course is for anyone fluent in both English and Spanish with aspirations of working as an interpreter in business and medical settings.
Description
As an interpreter, you can help others communicate - and provide critical assistance to people in vulnerable situations, such as immigrants and refugees. Professional interpreters in English and Spanish are in great demand, as Spanish is the most spoken non-English language in the U.S. This bundle of courses will prepare you for a rewarding career as a professional English-Spanish interpreter. You'll master interpretation and also learn how to interpret in medical settings. You'll be prepared to take your state exam for certification as a medical interpreter.
Course Objectives
  1. Learn how to transfer information in multicultural situations.
  2. Develop interpreting-specific skills such as short-term memory retention, shadowing, note-taking, sight-translation, consecutive interpreting, and more.
  3. Develop best practice interpreting techniques – simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation.
  4. Understand protocol when interpreting for a Spanish-speaking patient.
  5. Master the code of ethics of the medical interpreter.
  6. Understand all material tested in a Spanish Medical Interpreter exam.

You must be fluent in both English and Spanish prior to enrolling in this course.
Text and Supplies Needed
Hardware Requirements:
This course can be taken on either a PC or Mac.
Headphones or speakers.

Software Requirements:
PC: Windows 8 or later.
Mac: macOS 10.6 or later.
Browser: The latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are preferred. Microsoft Edge and Safari are also compatible.
Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Software must be installed and fully operational before the course begins.

Other:
