Intended Audience
This course is intended for anyone interested in becoming a Federal Court Interpreter.
Description
Examinations for certification as a State or Federal Spanish Court Interpreter are rigorous, requiring intensive training and access to practice courses. This course includes the finest online interpreting laboratory available. You will be able to practice numerous court cases as if in an actual court proceeding, at both the state and federal levels. Each lecture covers material that will be practiced immediately in the online laboratory - to make sure you not only memorize words and phrases but also know how to interpret them as required in a court of law. This course also prepares you to interpret in any civil deposition or other legal proceeding in criminal and civil jurisdictions.
Course Objectives
  1. Understand interpreting techniques – simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation.
  2. Learn criminal and civil terminology in both Spanish and English and the corresponding transfer into the opposite language.
  3. Master drug, firearm, fingerprint, gang terminology.
  4. Study juvenile court and children's court terminology.
  5. Explore the necessary material to sit in either a State or Federal Spanish Court Interpreter examination.
  6. Understand courtroom protocol and the ethics of the court interpreter.

Prerequisites
You must speak English and Spanish fluently. You should be familiar with using a personal computer, mouse, and keyboard. Students should be comfortable in a Windows or Mac environment, and have the ability to launch and close activities.
