Plumbing and Pipefitting Apprentices
Description
This course introduces students to increasingly more advanced aspects of the plumbing and pipefitting industry. Level 3 covers advanced plumbing theory, plumbing codes, gas installation, pumps, hydronic heating and cooling, steam systems, and startup, testing and balancing of plumbing systems. Level 4 includes more advanced aspects of pipefitting, such as air conditioning, welding, and Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD). These occupational skills are necessary for apprentice work in the plumbing and pipefitting trades. Apprentices can expect to work in typical construction environments. Potential workplace hazards include but are not limited to extreme temperatures, dust, noise, and other construction site hazards.
Course Objectives
  1. receive instruction pertinent to the third year of a plumbing and pipefitting apprenticeship, including gas installation, pumps, hydronic heating and cooling, steam systems, and startup, testing and balancing of plumbing systems.
  2. receive instruction pertinent to the fourth year of a plumbing and pipefitting apprenticeship, including training in air conditioning theory and installation practices, , computer assisted drafting (CAD), welding, sleeve drawing and deck layout, and piping system design.
Outline of Instruction
  1. Level 3 - Gas Installation, Pumps, Hydronic Heating and Cooling, Steam Systems, and Plumbing System Startup, Testing and Balancing.
  2. Level 4 - Sleeve Drawing and Deck Layout, Piping System Design, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), and Air Conditioning Basics
