Individuals seeking certification as a Community Health Workers, those exploring the field or other careers in public health, trusted community leaders who have a history working with diverse populations.

Este curso está diseñado para proporcionar a las personas con el conocimiento, herramientas, recursos y experiencias necesarias para convertirse en un Promotor de Salud (CHW, por sus siglas en inglés) certificado en Carolina del Norte. Los Promotores de Salud trabajan en una variedad de entidades tanto de atención médica como de apoyo comunitario incluyendo Departamentos de Salud, Hospitales, Centros de Salud Calificados Federalmente, Clínicas, Organizaciones de fe, etc.).

Este curso está diseñado para cubrir las nueve competencias básicas esenciales para poder trabajar como un Promotor de Salud. Las cuales incluyen:

· la comunicación
· la creación de capacidad
· la coordinación de servicios
· las habilidades interpersonales
· la abogacía
· el alcance comunitario
· las habilidades personales/profesionales

A través del curso se tratarán temas de salud y sociales que afectan de una manera desproporcionada a nuestra comunidad, incluyendo las enfermedades crónicas tales como la diabetes, el asma y el cáncer.
Algunos de los temas sociales incluirán la seguridad, la preparación para emergencias, el aislamiento social y las experiencias adversas durante la infancia (ACES, por sus siglas en inglés). Los estudiantes también aprenderán sobre el panorama cambiante de la atención médica en Carolina del Norte y cómo trabajar con sus clientes para conectarlos con recursos a través de NCCARE 360 y otras plataformas.

Requirements for Successful Completion of this Course
  1. Attendance 80% or above
  2. Participation
  3. ● Attendance
    Regular attendance is required for the student to complete all course requirements and receive the optimum benefit of instruction. In the event of an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to make up all missed work. Failure to make up missed work will adversely affect the student’s course grade. The maximum number of classes a student can miss without being dropped from the course is four (4) classes. Any student who misses more than the total allotted hours of no more than 4 days, is no longer eligible to receive a certificate of completion and will not be able to return to class.

    ● Participation
    Students are expected to be fully present in class and participate in discussion and activities. Those who attend virtual or hybrid classes are required to have access to a computer (PC or Mac), laptop, or tablet with a functional webcam, high-speed Internet access. They are also required to do approximately 2 - 3 hours of additional self study for in class discussion on certain key topics such as group facilitation, motivational interviewing, care management, and mental health and wellness training.
