Intended Audience
This course is designed for those who already have a solid foundation and conversational fluency in basic grammar and vocabulary and are looking for a higher-level conversation class taught all or mostly in Spanish.
Description
Ready for the next steps in Spanish conversation? For students who have had experience with Spanish conversation in classroom or social settings, this course will help take you to the next level. Improve your listening and speaking ability and acquire the vocabulary and grammar you need to speak with confidence.
Course Objectives
  1. demonstrate an intermediate level of fluency in conversational Spanish as evidenced by participation in class activities and discussions.
  2. be able to recognize and respond appropriately to both formal and informal speech.
  3. be able to use Spanish to perform higher order speaking activities such as summarizing, giving and justifying an opinion, comparison and contrast, and evaluating a resource.
Outline of Instruction
  1. Review of Spanish grammar.
  2. Identify grammatical structures and idiomatic expressions necessary for higher order speaking activities.
  3. Using Spanish to summarize what has been read or seen in a video.
  4. Using Spanish to give and justify an opinion.
  5. Using Spanish to compare and contrast things and experiences.
  6. Using Spanish to evaluate resources, behavior, and/or experiences.
  7. Understanding and applying Latin culture to various types of conversation in business, social settings, and education.

Prerequisites
Students taking this class should already have a level of conversational fluency in Spanish that is clearly beyond the basic level and should have already acquired a solid foundation in basic Spanish grammar and vocabulary.
