Intended Audience
This course is designed for non-Spanish speakers who work in construction trades and who would like to communicate with customers, employees, and coworkers in Spanish.
Description
Acquire the Spanish language skills you need for communicating on a construction job site. Lessons include practical, non-academic methods that are ideal for construction supervisors and their employees. Participants will practice speaking and listening to Spanish commands, expressions, and vocabulary essential to the workplace.
Course Objectives
  1. demonstrate a working knowledge of construction-related expressions, commands, and vocabulary.
  2. demonstrate a basic level of both speaking and listening skills in Spanish as it relates to the language used in the construction trade.
Outline of Instruction
  1. Basics Skills: pronunciation, greetings, everyday questions, people and things key commands, colors, numbers, time and place, telling time, the weather, descriptions.
  2. Basic Skills: verb - to be, verb - to have, there is, there are.
  3. Basic Skills: general health, the body, occupations, food and drink, clothing, transportation, tools and materials, measurements.
  4. Vocabulary for Construction Trades: (may include some or all of the topics in this list) grading and foundation, structural work, framing, roofing, mechanics exterior work, interior work.
  5. Employment - questions for interviewing and for establishing employment..
  6. Emergency - vocabulary needed for sudden medical emergencies.

  2. Participation
  3. Tests and quizzes may be given in this class. Passing tests and quizzes with a 75% or higher may be a condition of obtaining the certificate for this course.
