Description
This course provides an overview of North Carolina's building regulation system for building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire prevention code enforcement officials. It includes the structure of federal, state, and local governments; history of the NC Building Code; relevant NC statutes; and the enforcement responsibilities of local inspection departments. Course standards are set by the NC Code Officials Qualification Board and administered by the Engineering and Codes Division of the NC Department of Insurance/Office of State Fire Marshal.

Certification Learning Outcomes/Requirements
  1. Upon successful completion of this course, students will understand the structure and requirements of North Carolina Code Enforcement.
  2. Code Enforcement Officials (CEOs) holding Probationary and Standard Certificates issued by the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board (NCCOQB) will be able to determine the legality and administrative aspects of code compliance when evaluating applications for permits, performing site inspections and/or conducting plan reviews.
  3. Upon successful completion of this class and in conjunction with other requirements as set forth by the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board, students will be able to sit for the State Licensing Exams.
