A record 22,358 degree-seeking students converged on Wake Tech’s five campuses as the 2014-15 academic year got underway. Wake Tech is the largest community college in North Carolina (based on annual full-time equivalent enrollment).

Wake Tech’s online education programs have expanded to help accommodate rapid enrollment growth. The college now has more online students than any other community college in the state!

More than 650 students received degrees and diplomas at Wake Tech’s December 2014 commencement exercises. Graduates ranged in age from 18 to 64 and included the first graduate of Wake Tech’s new Associate in Fine Arts degree program, Sarah Schwepker. Graduation speaker Shana Hayes, a student at Wake Early College of Health and Sciences, received both an Associate in Arts and an Associate in Science degree as well as her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential.

A record-breaking graduating class of 1,467 students earned degrees and diplomas at Wake Tech’s Spring 2015 commencement exercises. Graduates ranged in age from 17 to 65 and included the first two graduates of the Health and Fitness Science degree program, Lisa Best and Victoria Danielle Hamid.

At the fall graduation ceremony for Wake Tech’s High School Equivalency programs, 89 proud students earned credentials – 63 completed the GED® test to earn a high school credential and another 26 earned Adult High School (AHS) diplomas (for students who need five credits or fewer to graduate).

More than 60 Wake Tech faculty members earned professor status at the second annual Faculty Rank Induction Ceremony: 13 assistant professors, 46 associate professors, and four professors. In addition to years of service, criteria for promotion include innovative teaching strategies, leadership, community service, advanced credentials, and Applied Benchmarking projects. Wake Tech established the ranking system in 2014 to reward excellence and retain top educators.
