The Loss Control/Investigation certificate prepares students to function effectively and lead within a fire department’s inspections and investigations division. The program provides an overview into the theories, practices, and scope of the fire prevention function, including the study of fire cause determination, fire protection law, model fire codes, life safety, public education, fire protection systems, employee supervision and expository writing. Upon completion, certificate holders may qualify for supervisory or entry-level management positions in fire prevention, training, or fire suppression. Additional employment opportunities in fire and life safety protection may also be found in hospitals, colleges, manufacturing facilities or insurance companies.
