Wake Tech Community College hosted commencement exercises for fall 2012 graduates today in the gymnasium on Main Campus. More than 500 students received degrees and diplomas in two ceremonies.

Students of all ages who never completed high school finally turned their tassels in front of joyful family and friends. Wake Tech Community College held its fall graduation ceremony tonight for students receiving their GED or Adult High School diploma.

Wake Tech Community College students showcased their math skills at the third annual statewide competition of the North Carolina Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges (NCMATYC).

Wake Tech Community College has earned CALEA®  accreditation for its public safety training, becoming the first community college in North Carolina – and the second in the nation – to do so. CALEA®, the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., has awarded accreditation to the Wake Tech Public Safety Training Academy, in recognition of its commitment to professional excellence in policy and practice.

Global technology giant Lenovo has announced its support for Wake Tech’s largest-ever fundraising initiative, a major gifts campaign called “The Ripple Effect.” The campaign is a response to record-breaking enrollment at Wake Tech and increased demand for the education and training programs the college offers.

Wake Tech Community College has awarded National Science Foundation scholarships to 39 students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs for the 2011-12 year.

Many students who attend Wake Tech Community College describe the experience as “life changing.” They say they’ve learned new skills, earned promotions, started their own companies, even found the job of their dreams. They’ve gained confidence and achieved success for themselves, their families, and the community.

“It’s not only how much money you give away – it’s how you made that money in the first place.” Stan Litow, IBM Vice President of Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs, says his company’s commitment to social responsibility is guided by that belief.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation has announced a $20,000 contribution to “The Ripple Effect,” Wake Tech’s major gifts campaign. The funds will expand BOA’s already-generous support for students transitioning out of GED and Adult High School programs to include graduates of ESL (English as a Second Language) and high-level graduates of Adult Basic Education programs.
