This course is for entry-level learners with no previous healthcare experience and/or current healthcare professionals looking to upskill or refresh.
Description
Craving a career that has a direct and positive impact on patients’ lives? This program will help you learn how to provide basic care to people who need it. You’ll learn to bathe, feed, manage supplies, collect lab specimens, and take the vital signs of sick and injured patients. And thanks to our clinical partners, this program includes a 100-hour externship opportunity. While we cannot guarantee placement or employment in your area, we work with a vast network of providers to try to find a good fit.
Course Objectives
  1. Develop an understanding of the main body systems.
  2. Identify and summarize relevant medical terminology.
  3. Recognize and understand the basic structure of healthcare.
  4. Learn about the role of the patient care technician.
  5. Understand the importance of written and verbal communication within a healthcare team.
  6. Identify the law and ethics of the medical office.
  7. Learn about patient reception and telephone techniques.
  8. Develop a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology.
  9. Learn about the pathophysiology and disease processed of the body systems.
  10. Understand patient psychology and how to effectively interact with patients.
  11. Describe patient rights, ethics, and laws.
  12. Learn the steps and procedures necessary to assist with physical examinations.
  13. Describe ear and eye diseases and how to effectively perform ear and eye examinations.
  14. Explain how to measure and record patient vital signs.
  15. Explore the techniques used to aid patients with pain management, comfort, rest, and sleep.
  16. Outline the steps to assist patients with proper nutrition, fluid intake, hygiene, and grooming.
  17. Understand how to assist patients with urinary and bowel elimination using the proper techniques and cleaning methods.
  18. Identify the proper procedures to assist patients with oxygen needs.
  19. Identify emergency procedures and first aid.
  20. Understand how to prepare and maintain an EKG machine and perform proper lead placement, as well as understand how to monitor and read EKGs.
  21. Learn medical asepsis and the OSHA standards, and understand the importance of sterilization and disinfection.
  22. Identify the proper procedures and techniques for obtaining capillary punctures, venipunctures, and blood samples.
  23. Understand specimen collection, transportation, and handling.
  24. Learn about patient care for women, children, and those with special needs.
  25. Explore and learn about caring for patients with chronic conditions and patients receiving end-of-life care.
