This course is intended for anyone interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician and preparing for the certification exam.
Description
Pharmacy Technician Part 2 is the second course in a two-part program that prepares students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification exam (PTCE). This course is designed to help students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to aid in the successful daily operation of a pharmacy. Course modules will emphasize pharmacy job roles and responsibilities institutional pharmacy settings. Students also will be provided with an opportunity to demonstrate knowledge of pharmacy inventory management, vaccination and immunization skills, understanding of HIPPA laws and how to prepare various types of prescriptions through a 200-hour externship at a pharmacy. In the internship, students also will demonstrate their knowledge of pharmacology, prescriptions, pharmaceutical calculations, and non-sterile compounding. Note: As you approach the internship portion of the course, students will be required to complete a drug screening and background check. If a student does not pass the drug screening and/or background check, s/he can continue working in the Online Working in the Pharmacy Part 2 course, but the student will not be eligible to participate in the pharmacy externship. If a student does not pass the drug screening and/or background check, s/he also has the opportunity to drop the Online Working in the Pharmacy Part II course as long as the drop request is submitted and approved before the course census date.

  1. Explain inventory management.
  2. Describe the difference between a solution, a suspension, an elixir, and an emulsion.
  3. Examine the roles of pharmacy technicians in supporting immunizations.
  4. Describe various services of the hospital pharmacy.
  5. Review expectations and procedures for completing the lab activities.
  6. Understand the HIPAA Privacy Rule and Security Rules.
  7. Review and Complete the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam mapped to PTCB certification exam or ExCPT NHA certification exam.
