Intended Audience
This course is intended to provide individuals with employability skills training as it relates to developing basic computer skills for the workplace.
Description
Improve your technology skills to enhance your potential for success in the workplace! This course will help you improve keyboarding speed and accuracy, create more effective emails, conduct efficient internet searches to find online resources, and use word processing and spreadsheet programs to create professional documents and meet workplace goals. You'll develop the key computer skills that today’s employers demand.
Course Objectives
  1. have learned computer terminology and improved keyboarding skills;
  2. have learned how to organize and manage electronic files including how to use a flash drive;
  3. have developed basic internet search skills for gaining access to information and resources;
  4. have gained an understanding of email etiquette for their job search and in the workplace;
  5. have learned email functions such as sending/receiving messages and adding/viewing attachments; and
  6. have learned and applied basic word processing and spreadsheet software skills needed to create and format employment-related documents.
Outline of Instruction
  1. Computer terminology and keyboarding skills.
  2. Operating system and navigating the desktop environment.
  3. File management, including how to save and retrieve documents using a flash drive.
  4. Web browsers and internet search skills.
  5. Email communication and etiquette.
  6. Word processing software: create and format work place and job search documents such as resume and cover letter.
  7. Spread sheet software: create job search tracking forms and basic work place documents.
  8. How to use mail merge and create links to files within word processing and spread sheet programs.
