Intended Audience
This class is designed for students pursuing the ESL Teaching Certificate or for those working in the field of ESL instruction.
Description
Learn how to integrate various technologies into the ESL classroom to engage and reinforce learning. Use websites and internet applications to enhance instruction and make lesson planning more efficient. In this course, you’ll learn how to design and create tools to enhance learning while improving student engagement, collaboration, knowledge retention, and assessment.
Course Objectives
  1. demonstrate a basic knowledge of how to use various types of technology to enhance language teaching and learning.
  2. create original material such as a website, a slideshow presentation, or online instruction and assessment tools.
  3. demonstrate an understanding of how to integrate technology into lesson plans for ESL.
Outline of Instruction
  1. How to set up and make use of a learning management system (Google Classroom, Moodle).
  2. How to harness the power of social media for language teaching and learning.
  3. How to set up a website for an ESL class.
  4. Using slideshow presentations in an ESL class.
  5. How to create and make use of Internet applications for review and assessment.
  6. Using the Internet to help produce instructional handouts and games.
  7. How to find and assess websites for use in ESL instruction.
  8. Using videos to teach listening comprehension.
