This course is intended for certified, sworn law enforcement officers
Description
This course provides officers with an understanding of the concepts, principles, and practices needed to function as credible leaders in today's law enforcement agencies. *Module I is the first part of this five-part Public Safety Leadership Academy series. Modules build on each other and must be taken in sequence. (You must successfully complete Module I before you can register for Module II.)
Course Objectives
  1. Understand the issues involved when leading teams and subordinates.
  2. Understand the issues involved when hiring and dealing with different generations.
  3. Understand the importance of teamwork in running your agency effectively and building legacy.
  4. Understand Emotional Intelligence concepts and principles.
  5. Understand ways to develop leadership skills to become great.
  6. Understand the key communication maxims.
  7. Understand the three (3) types of conflict (felt, perceived and real).
  8. Discuss the importance of understanding the concepts of diversity.
  9. Understand the importance of focusing on the "why" versus the "what" and the "how" to lead more effectively.
  10. Understand the Action-Centered Leadership functions to improve leadership.
  11. Understand Reflective Leadership functions and goals.
  12. Understand the importance of leaving a legacy at your agency.
  13. Review the importance of Succession Planning.
  14. Understand the Human Capital Management Concept and Practices.
