Description
This course is a review of the laws, codes, and procedures covered by the NC General Contractors License Examination for residential and light construction, including all one- and two-family dwellings covered by the NC Residential Code. The course covers blueprint reading, cost estimation, quantity take-off, OSHA laws and regulations, the NC Residential Building Code, construction practices, and construction management. Upon completion, participants will be prepared to take the licensure exam for the Residential Classification of the NC General Contractors License, as administered by the NC Licensing Board of General Contractors.
Course Objectives
  1. ...have a general understanding of the North Carolina Residential Building code and will be able to demonstrate their competency with the code by locating code provision and providing an interpretation as to the application of the code in the building industry.
  2. ... be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of standard construction industry practices, the application and use of construction materials and the appropriate use thereof.
  3. ... have a working knowledge of the home-building process including the business considerations that are a part of the construction of every home.

Certification Learning Outcomes/Requirements
  1. Upon successful completion of this class and in conjunction with other requirements as set forth by the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors, students will be able to sit for the General Contractor's License Examination for Residential and Light Construction.
  2. Upon successfully passing the State exam and by complying with the rules as stated in North Carolina Administrative Code Title 21; Chapter 12 of the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors, a license will be issued.
