Description
Turn your love for animals into a successful career as a pet groomer! This course provides basic knowledge of pet grooming as well as hands-on experience in the field of professional retail pet care. You’ll work with dogs, under the supervision of a an experienced groomer. You’ll learn basic canine anatomy and learn about coat and skin disorders, animal behavior and safe handling and restraining, and grooming tools and techniques. You’ll also learn about the importance of quality customer service, for both animals and their owners.
Course Objectives
  1. • Learn the basics of dog grooming and proper dog hygiene.
    • Learn basic anatomy of a dog, including proper movement of the joints that require moving an animal’s leg, tail, etc.
    • Know basic dog psychology, understand dog actions and behaviors.
    • Recognize the different breeds of dogs, their coats and recommended cuts.
    • Learn pet first aid; recognize any parasite infestations, and common skin diseases.
    • Use the common tools of dog grooming.
    • Learn how to perform the grooming tasks without causing any strain or damage to you.
    • Maintain a safe work environment for people and pets.
    • Learn basic business skills of customer service, record keeping and scheduling appointments.
    • Practice hands on grooming of dogs.
Outline of Instruction
  1. • Basics of dog anatomy, grooming and proper dog hygiene.
    • Basic dog psychology - understand dogs and their temperaments, safe procedures.
    • Different breeds of dogs, their coats and their recommended grooming cuts.
    • Pet First Aid, parasite infestations, common skin diseases.
    • Using the common tools of pet grooming, care of tools. Perform grooming tasks without stress or strain to humans.
    • Customer service for owners and dogs, basic book keeping, scheduling grooming visits and how to work as an employee in the pet grooming industry.
    • Hands on practice with dogs to do nail trimming, ear cleaning, eye care, dental care and cleaning wrinkles.
    • Properly bath, brush and dry dogs in a grooming center. Trim and style dogs according to their breed type.
