Description
In partnership with Career Step, Wake Tech offers part two of this two-part course. Medical Coding and Billing prepares students for careers in the medical industry. Coding and billing professionals translate medical records into standardized codes that are used to bill patients and third-party payers, such as Medicare and private insurance companies. Participants will learn administrative office practices relating to medical billing, ICD-10-CM outpatient coding, Federal Qualified Health Centers, telehealth for coding and ICD-10-PCS inpatient coding methodologies. This program is trusted by the leading provider of health care services in the U.S. and one of the country's largest managed healthcare companies, among others. Upon completion, students will be prepared to take the CBCS, CPC, COC or CCS-P certification exams.
Course Objectives
  1. Differentiate between major health insurance programs, government-sponsored health benefit programs, and related federal health care legislation.
  2. Accurately assign and sequence ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes for inpatient, outpatient, and physician services according to the official coding guidelines.
  3. Describe services applicable to FHQC and RHC.
  4. Identify major methods and models of modern telehealth including features, remote monitoring and reimbursement.
  5. Accurately assign and sequence ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes according to official guidelines for inpatient services.
