A 10-12 week comprehensive training program developed by our instructors to give you industry recognized certificates through the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI), National Restaurant Association, Opera Property Management Software Training (used at the Front Office), T.I.P.S (Health Communications Inc.), Host U (Knowledge in Wines, Beer, Spirits and Non-Alcoholic Beverages), Delphi (optional for Sales & Catering) as well as CVENT (Event Management) . Students get an e-text book along with the My Hospitality Lab. Students also learn on the Moodle Learning System.
We also have Guest Speakers who visit our classes to educate our students on the ins and outs of the industry as well as to give advice on how to succeed.
We also arrange Field trips at different market segments so that students get to experience first-hand what it would be to work in different properties. We provide leads to students for employment and have had employers also visit us to hire our graduates prior to them graduating.
The Online Version
Students in this self-paced version of the class get an e-text book along with My Hospitality Lab. Students get to learn the course in the My Hospitality Lab as well as the Moodle Portal.
Upon successfully completing the course students get certified in Opera Property Management System (used in Hotel Front offices), Front Desk Rep Certification (American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute), Host U Certifications (Knowledge in Wines, Beer, Spirits and Non-Alcoholic Beverages).
Students also get to study different case scenarios that are relevant to the industry.
Delphi (Sales & Catering Certification) is optional. The only time students come in the class is for the Final Servsafe Proctored Exams.

Updated with the 2013 FDA Food Code. Certify your knowledge of the principles of safety and sanitation in the food service industry. A full time manager must have completed the food service sanitation program approved by the regulatory department within the past 3 years. ServSafe® in Online Format
Wake Tech offers SERVSAFE® training online, in addition to traditional (classroom) format. The traditional version is a two-day class for students who prefer instructor-led study and the chance to ask questions in real time. The online version is available for one month and is appropriate for those who prefer self-paced learning and flexible scheduling. Course content, testing, and certification are the same for both formats.
How to register for ServSafe® Online
Visit workforce.waketech.edu to sign up for the ServSafe® online course.
- Type ServSafe in the "Find a Class" search box.
- Once you’ve signed up, you will be given access to My Servsafe Lab, where you can access course materials.
- When selecting a class section, make sure to choose the online version – not the traditional version. ServSafe® online is taught in both English and Spanish.
Examination and Certification
- Your final exam will be taken on campus, once you’ve completed the online course.
- Your instructor will give you an exam date. Exams must be ordered, so dates may not be flexible.
- Bring the following to the final exam:
- Your official picture ID
- Cell phones are not allowed! Phones brought into the examination room will be collected and returned after the exam.
- The exam will be proctored. The proctor will give each student an exam session number and review National Restaurant Association rules before the exam begins.
- Exam results will be available in 10-14 business days. Exams are evaluated by the National Restaurant Association.
When you receive your exam results, you may generate your own certificate:
- Create a user ID and password in Servsafe.com.
- Type in your certificate number and your exam session number.
- Print your certificate.

We certify you in TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) A dynamic, skills-based program designed to prevent intoxication, drunk driving, and underage drinking by training servers, sellers, and consumers of alcohol. You'll also get hands-on instruction in bar setup and learn a variety of drink recipes .We also give you access to a program and get you certified in Knowledge of Wines, Beer, Spirits and Non-Alcoholic Beverages. You will get a certificate upon successful completion of all the modules.

The OPERA Property Management System (PMS) is designed to meet the varied requirements of any size hotel or hotel chain. OPERA PMS provides all the tools a hotel staff needs for day-to-day operations - handling reservations, checking guests in and out, assigning rooms and managing room inventory, accommodating in-house guest needs, and handling accounting and billing. The property management software is configurable to each property's specific requirements and operates in either single-property or multi-property mode, with all properties in a complex sharing a single database.

Craft Beer Brewing | Details & Registration | Contact Coordinator
Craft Beer Brewing Part 1: Fermentation, Brewhouse, and Packaging Operations. Craft beer brewing is on the rise. This course will help prepare students for entry-level work in craft breweries. The course will involve hands-on training at various Wake County breweries and will explore fermentation, cellar operations, instruments, malting, hops, clarification, racking room operations, bottle shop operations, and more. Students will also produce beer as a group to show their understanding of principles learned in the classroom and field environments.
Additional Course Information: Students MUST be 21 years of age or older to take this course. Throughout the course students will be making field trips to Big Boss and Trophy Brewing companies were they will participate in and learn the commercial brewing processes.
Instructor Information: Thomas Vincent is the successful former pub brewer for Natty Greene's Brewing Company here in Raleigh, NC. Mr. Vincent has an extensive background in professional brewing from nearly ten years of diverse responsibilities in the profession and is soon opening his own brewery here in Wake County named the Compass Rose.
