Nurse Aide Program

Welcome and thank you for your interest in Wake Tech's Nurse Aide I (NAI) program. NAI introduces students to basic nursing skills needed in a healthcare setting, and is approved by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation.

Classroom topics

Communication, safety, patient rights, personal care, vital signs, elimination, nutrition, emergencies, rehabilitation and mental health. Upon completion, students will be able to demonstrate skills necessary to become a nursing assistant.

How to register

All students registering for Nurse Aide I classes are required to go through an orientation process before they register.

NOTE: You do NOT have to go through an online orientation process to register for Nurse Aide Refresher, Nurse Aide II or Home Care Nurse Aide classes, but you DO have to be a Nurse Aide I to enter these advanced level classes.

Upon completion of the program:

Students may take the State Competency Exam, given by Pearson Vue/NACES.

The test is a two part, 70 question written exam and five skills. The current cost for both is $101.
The test can be taken at Wake Tech Community College, and is also given in Spanish.
Successful completers are eligible for listing as a Nurse Aide I with the NC Nurse Aide Registry.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR NURSE AIDE 1 REFRESHER

Registrations must be made in person at The Public Safety Education Campus, 321 Chapanoke Road, Raleigh NC 27603 (Room 1208). Registrations are accepted on:

Tuesdays from 2 pm to 8 pm
Thursdays from 2 pm to 5 pm

Students must pay a $128 registration fee at the time of registration. Payment may be made by personal check, money order, MasterCard, Visa, or cash. (NOTE: If paying by cash, arrive by 4:30 pm). Proof of one of the following items must be presented at the time of registration:

An expired North Carolina Nurse Aide I listing with no substantiated findings or a successful completion of a North Carolina Nurse Aide I Program from an accredited institution within the last 5 years
A current Nurse Aide I listing from another state with no substantiated findings
An expired out-of-state listing with no substantiated findings from an accredited institution or a successful completion of a Nurse Aide I Program from another state from an accredited institution within the last 5 years (NOTE: The student must provide proof that the institution is accredited.)
Proof of completion of military corpsman training
Completion of a RN or above training

REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR NURSE AIDE II

Registrations must be made in person at the Public Safety Education Campus, 321 Chapanoke Road, Raleigh, NC 27603 (Room 1208). Please call Debbie Parrish at 919-866-6109 to schedule an appointment to register for the class.

Students must pay a $270 registration fee at the time of registration. Payment may be made by personal check, money order, MasterCard, Visa, or cash. (NOTE: If paying by cash, students must arrive by 4:00 pm) Students must complete an on-line background check at the time of registration. The fee is $30 and must be paid by a debit or credit care. Nurse Aide II students must provide the following items when registering for the class:

proof of high school graduation or GED, and
proof of a current/active Nursing Aide I listing in North Carolina with no substantiated findings

We will be offering another Nurse Aide II class in September, 2013.

Home Care Nurse Aide Speciality

NOTE: You do NOT have to go through an online orientation process to register for Home Care Nurse Aide classes but you DO have to be a Nurse Aide I to enter these advanced level classes.

Emphasizes advanced training in person-centered care, patient and person safety, hydration/nutrition, mental health, behavorial challenges, pain management, palliative care, and stress management delivered in a home care setting. Completers are eligible for listing as a Home Care Nurse Aide with the NC Nurse Aide Registry.
**A limited number of scholarships are available for students in this class. Contact us for to see if you qualify**
