Our division is focused on three areas of instruction: Applied Engineering & Design Technologies, Skilled Trades & Construction Technologies, and Transportation Technologies.
Applied Engineering & Design Technologies
Programs of study in the Applied Engineering & Design Technologies area educate and train students to be technicians in a variety of STEM-based disciplines. Technicians perform quality assurance testing, complete design drawings, and carry out diagnostic, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures on equipment. Solving problems, collecting and analyzing data, and conducting experiments are all part of the technician's role in engineering and design. Students interested in the Applied Engineering & Design Technologies typically are hands-on learners, enjoy challenges, and understand how teamwork produces great results.
Skilled Trades & Construction Technologies
Expertise in a craft such as welding or electrical wiring is always in demand, and Wake Technical Community College offers five programs of study for students who want a project-based, hands-on experience. While most of the work in the Skilled Trades & Construction Technologies takes place in profession-specific labs with equipment one would see in the industry, students will also receive instruction in mathematics, blueprint reading, and code compliance. There are many opportunities in the Skilled Trades & Construction Technologies in the area.
Automotive and Heavy Equipment systems are complex, and these systems demand that maintenance and repair be done by skilled technicians with practical knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical theories. Students desirous of employment in any of the transportation industries - automotive, collision, heavy equipment - will be taught by instructors with many years of field experience and who have many levels of discipline-specific certifications. With an emphasis on safety, professionalism, and skill-building, the Transportation Technologies programs are high-demand, high-wage opportunities.
