Wake Tech Takes “Best in Show” at ACF Competition
RALEIGH, N.C. (December 7, 2012) - Wake Tech student Megen Campbell took home the only gold medal at the Fall 2012 Culinary Competition at Wake Tech’s Main Campus. The event was sanctioned by the American Culinary Federation (ACF). Dozens of students from culinary schools in North and South Carolina submitted more than 80 entries in several categories, including cakes, showpieces, pastries and cold food platters. Not only did Campbell’s wedding cake win a gold medal, it earned the title of “Best in Show” as well.
In addition to Wake Tech, schools that participated included Guilford Tech Community College, Johnson & Wales, the Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham, the Art Institute of Charleston, and the Chef’s Academy. ACF judges from across the country spent four hours judging, and then provided one-on-one critiques for the students. Judges awarded medals based on the official ACF point scale.
