Wake Tech Strengthens Commitment to Sustainability with Two New Pedestrian Walkways
March 25th, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. (March 24, 2014) - Wake Tech’s Main Campus has opened two new pedestrian walkways connecting Parking Lot S to Tech Road and the east side of campus. Since 2010, the college has provided shuttle service for Lot S because it had no direct connection to many campus buildings. With the new walkways, shuttle service will no longer be necessary, and as a result, the walkways will pay for themselves in less than four years.
Cost-savings is not the project’s only benefit. Nearly 85,000 pounds of CO2 will be eliminated annually, helping Wake Tech meet the goals of its American College and University Climate Commitment. Eliminating the shuttle vans for just one year is the equivalent of taking 12 cars off the road.
In addition, the walkways are a wonderful addition to Main Campus, with seating areas, lighting for nighttime use, and emergency phones. The walkways offer a short, safe, scenic walk that gets everyone moving and encourages a healthier lifestyle.
