New Credential May Help Enhance Resumes for Job Seekers

RALEIGH, N.C. (January 13, 2010) - Job hunters looking for an edge in today's market have a new way to help impress potential employers. Thanks to a nationwide Microsoft initiative, called "Elevate America," Wake Technical Community College is distributing 1,000 vouchers for free Microsoft certification exams and advanced level online courses over the next six weeks.

A voucher, worth up to $85, allows individuals skilled in software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Access, to take an exam at no charge to earn the certification. A $10 proctoring fee does apply. The deadline to apply for the vouchers and take the exams is February 24, 2010.

North Carolina is one of only eight states in which vouchers have been made available. Exams are offered through Wake Tech at the State Personnel Development Center in Raleigh.

Vouchers are also available for Advanced IT Professional Training in topics like Microsoft SQL Server, .NET Framework, and Visual Basic - skills that can enhance qualifications for highly-competitive technology jobs. These vouchers must be redeemed online by February 24, 2010, although participants have up to one year to complete the online training.

Elevate America is part of an overall effort by Microsoft to train two million people over the next three years.
