Wake Tech Marks 50th Anniversary with Fine Arts Celebration
College Hosts Evening of Music, Art
RALEIGH, N.C. (April 11, 2013) - Wake Tech commemorated its 50th anniversary tonight with an Evening of Fine Arts at the Northern Wake Campus. The college hosted the special event in Building E to celebrate the arts and to thank Wake County resident Nancy Vanhoenacker, who donated her beloved 1920’s piano to the college. Wake Tech is hoping to raise funds to restore the vintage Mason & Hamlin for its growing Fine Arts Department. The college will offer an Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts beginning this fall.
Wake Tech students presented opening scenes from a musical production of “Into the Woods,” which premieres in Building E next week. The Wake Tech Northern Wake Campus Chorus and the Wake Tech Drum Group also performed. Artwork created by Wake Tech Visual Arts students was on display in the building’s atrium.
Wake Tech’s Fine Arts Department offers a wide range of courses to complement any student’s program of study, along with opportunities for developing strong artistic skills in personal expression and critical thinking. The department makes performances, presentations, and workshops by students, faculty, and visiting artists available to the public throughout the academic year.
