Wake Tech Leader Named to National Board
RALEIGH, N.C. (November 15, 2010) - Mort Congleton, Wake Tech Vice President of Development and Executive Director of the Wake Tech Foundation, has been named treasurer of the 2011 Board of Directors of the Council for Resource Development (CRD) in Washington, D.C. CRD supports more than 700 community colleges across the U.S. by providing education and support for development officers. Congleton's appointment was announced at the group's 44th annual national conference on November 5. He will serve a one-year term.
Polly Binns, CRD's Executive Director, says she is "thrilled" to have Congleton on board. "As community colleges strive to fulfill our society's goals to enrich our communities through workforce training and college degree attainment, Mr. Congleton will help guide CRD's strategic vision to provide the gold standard in professional development and advocacy for our members."
Congleton has previously served as Regional Director for CRD. A former member of the Raleigh City Council, he joined Wake Tech as Foundation Director in 2005. Under his leadership, total assets for the Wake Tech Foundation have more than doubled, from $2.5 million to more than $5 million. Before coming to Wake Tech, Congleton was Executive Director of the SPCA of Wake County and was instrumental in creating the vision for the nationally-recognized Curtis Dail Pet Adoption Center.

The Wake Tech Foundation's mission is to partner with corporations, foundations, and individuals to support Wake Technical Community College's institutional and instructional needs. In the 2009-2010 academic year, more than 250 students continued their education with the help of a Foundation scholarship or emergency financial assistance loan. To date, more than 280 employees have received financial assistance to pursue their bachelor' s or master's degree, doctorate, certificate, licensure or other professional development through the Foundation's tuition assistance program.
