Wake Tech Fall Enrollment Exceeds 22,000 for First Time
August 19th, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. (August 18, 2014) - A record 22,358 students converged on Wake Tech’s five campuses today as the 2014-15 academic year got underway. Students purchased books, obtained identification badges and parking stickers, and familiarized themselves with course schedules.
Staff, faculty, and administrators welcomed students and helped them find classrooms and navigate parking lots.
Enrollment continues to increase as the region’s demand for education and training continues to grow. Wake Tech is the largest community college in North Carolina (based on annual full-time equivalent enrollment); about 30% of high school graduates from the Wake County Public School System will attend Wake Tech!
The college expands programs, adds faculty, and builds new facilities to keep up with community needs. This fall, in response to industry demand, Wake Tech has expanded Welding Technology to offer a new, two-year associate’s degree in addition to the certificate and diploma already offered. On the Northern Wake Campus, construction is underway for a parking deck and an 87,000-square-foot instructional building that will include classrooms, a library, a tutoring center, and disability support services. Wake Tech also builds capacity and accommodates rapid growth by offering courses online: the college has more online students than any other college or university in the state!
