Wake Tech’s Fall Enrollment Exceeds 21,000 for First Time
RALEIGH, N.C. (August 16, 2013) - A record 21,658 students flooded Wake Tech’s five campuses today for the start of the 2013-14 academic year. It’s the first time fall enrollment has hit the 21,000 mark in college history. Enrollment at Wake Tech has increased more than 55% over the past five years as the college has continued to expand to meet regional demands for education and training.
Three new instructional buildings plus a parking deck are in the planning stages at Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus, thanks to county voters’ overwhelming support of a $200 million bond last fall. The bond will also allow the college to begin construction on its sixth campus, the RTP Campus in Morrisville, which should open in 2017. In addition, Wake Tech is accommodating rapid growth by expanding its online course offerings; Wake Tech now has the largest online program among the state’s 58 community colleges.
Wake Tech’s enrollment is expected to grow by 50% over the next five years. Every semester, more than 5,400 students are on waiting lists for classes that are full. Wake Tech is the largest community college in North Carolina, based on annual full-time equivalent enrollment.
New associate degree programs this fall include Fine Arts, Health and Fitness Technology, and Computer Technology Integration.
