RALEIGH, N.C. (July 31, 2017) - 2016-17 was the most successful year ever for grants at Wake Tech! The Office of Sponsored Programs and Federal Relations received $10.99 million in grant funding – a first in its 13-year history. Like most educational institutions, Wake Tech leverages grant funds to expand vital programs and services beyond what operating budgets allow.

“This is truly unprecedented,” says Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen C. Scott, “and we cannot overstate how valuable these resources are. Grants make the difference in critical ways, and often at very critical times – allowing us to provide training and education options that profoundly impact the well-being of individuals, their families, and in turn our communities and our entire region.”

Highlights of the grant awards:

  • $575,277 from the National Science Foundation – Advanced Technological Education program (NSF-ATE) to fund Robotics Awake. Wake Tech’s Advanced Manufacturing programs will collaborate with industry partners to develop a curriculum training technicians to program, operate, and use light industrial robots.
  • $580,000 from the Aspen Institute’s “Frontier Set,” a select group of 31 institutions nationwide that have committed to increasing student access and success and eliminating racial/ethnic and socio-economic disparities in college attainment.
  • $15,000 from Accenture, a Raleigh consulting firm, for training in NC FAST, a program to improve operations at county social services departments.
  • $10,000 from Duke Energy to add electric vehicle charging stations at the Northern and Main campuses.

Since the Office of Sponsored Programs and Federal Relations was established in 2004, Wake Tech has received more than $48 million in grant funds for program support. More than $31 million has been awarded in the past five years.
