Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Sparians Shares Secrets to Success

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 24, 2011) - "If I can do it, you can do it." That's how Chris Angel feels about launching a successful small business. The marketing professional-turned-entrepreneur shared the secrets of his success with 100 small business owners and would-be entrepreneurs at Sparians Bowling Boutique and Bistro this morning. The event was part of the Wake Tech Wachovia Wells Fargo Center for Entrepreneurship Speaker Series.

Angel spent 15 years in the global software industry before deciding to strike out on his own. "I always wanted to be an entrepreneur," Angel says. In 2009, he enrolled in a Wake Tech program called "Planning the Entrepreneurial Venture." The course helped Chris develop financing strategies and write a business plan. Angel pitched his idea to Raleigh developer John Kane, who was impressed. Kane invested in the project and Sparians opened in the posh North Hills complex in December 2010. The unique business, which blends bowling, dining and entertainment, is booming. "We've hosted 900 events since we opened," Angel says, "including wedding receptions, corporate parties, a fashion show, and even the Carolina Hurricanes' Super Bowl bash!"

Angel says the success of Sparians isn't about pins and strikes. "It's not about the bowling," Angel says. "We're not a bowling alley - anything but. Sparians is about a fun place for people to be social." He says the key to making a small business thrive is thinking out of the box. "It doesn't have to be a brand new idea," Angel says. "It's an idea that is done in a different way."

Chris Angel says his newfound success is still very surreal. "In just a few short months we went from having something on paper to having our own venture." He credits Wake Tech's PEV course, a solid business plan, investors, and his work passion - something he says is essential to making an entrepreneurial dream come true. "Find something you love to do."

The Wake Tech Wachovia Wells Fargo Center for Entrepreneurship was established in January 2010 with a grant from Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company as a resource center for potential small business owners. The Entrepreneur Speaker Series is a quarterly program where successful entrepreneurs share stories about their business ventures. The Center also offers scholarships for curriculum programs for college credit as well as continuing education courses, seminars and events, one-on-one counseling, small business resources, and a virtual "colony" of entrepreneurs for sharing ideas online.
